Vettel on unorthodox strategy: "In the end it paid off"
Sebastian Vettel had to take responsibility for Ferrari, after the failure of Charles Leclerc. The German managed to score points with an alternate strategy.
Halfway through the race Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel decided to only perform one pit stop during the Spanish Grand Prix. "Of course we had nothing to lose, so I tried an unorthodox strategy. In the end that paid off."
It just didn't go without a fight. "I was very tired. The last couple of rounds were really hard. It helped that we were a lap behind, you can't say that often. But the lap less helped. It was the only chance for us to score points," the four-time world champion explained to Ziggo Sport.
Remarkable behaviour of the tyres
Despite the points, the problems are not yet ready for Vettel. "Today's result was okay, but I'm still struggling a lot with the car. The first stint was very difficult, the second stint I had the car a lot more under control with the soft tyres. It should have been the other way around, but that didn't apply to me. Of course there is still a lot of work to be done," the German concludes.
