According to Max Verstappen it is better for Pierre Gasly to stay with AlphaTauri. According to the Dutchman, Gasly might face a tough time when he does make the switch to Red Bull Racing and becomes a teammate of Verstappen again.

Gasly better off at AlphaTauri

Gasly is doing almost perfectly this season and after a bizarre race at Monza, he even took his first victory. Yet Verstappen thinks it's better for the Frenchman to remain a leader at AlphaTauri than to become a second driver at Red Bull.

According to Verstappen, it's not very important to have a strong teammate this season. "At the moment we are not fighting for the championship anyway so it doesn’t really matter", he says to Reuters press agency.

A missed opportunity in Monza

Verstappen sees the Italian Grand Prix as a missed opportunity. Mercedes scored very few points, so the Dutchman would've been able to catch up with Hamilton in the championship standings. "The dominance Mercedes had from the start means it is very difficult to catch up with throughout the season."

"I can be screaming every single weekend that we’re not winning but that is not going to help. I think naturally you just accept the situation you are in and try to make the best of it and of course help and guide where you can to improve the car and hope that next year will be better", concludes Verstappen.
