Max Verstappen finished second in Germany on Sunday, setting the fastest time in the final lap. This gave him an extra point he was happy with. Anyway, Verstappen knows he doesn't stand a chance against Mercedes on paper and with that mindset he approaches the races, turning frustration into the best he can do.

No more frustration

At Peptalk at Ziggo Sport the Red Bull Racing driver says: "You can be frustrated every weekend that you can't win. Or at least, you need luck to win. I'm just trying to get the best out of it and I have now accepted my situation. I am now enjoying getting the most out of myself."

That fastest lap is not always as self-evident as it seems, sometimes permission has to be asked for, says Robert Doornbos, but that was not the case in this case. Verstappen just went for it, and it worked.

"I did see his (Hamilton) fastest lap on the screens where the fans are watching so I knew what I had to get, but the team hadn't said anything. So I thought, I'm just going to try and we'll see.

"I didn't expect it and in the end an extra point, that's a good thing," said the Dutchman who also says that the car is getting better bit by bit.

"The updates worked well, we're getting closer and closer, so of course I'm happy with that. We will continue to do so, but of course Mercedes is not standing still either."
