Power Rankings: Verstappen closes the gap to Hamilton considerably
- GPblog.com
Daniel Riccardo's first podium finish at Renault earned him a good score in the Power Rankings of F1.com. Max Verstappen also got a good score, but not enough to stay ahead of Ricciardo.
High scores
Ricciardo is working on an incredible season with Renault. So it wasn't a question of whether the podium would be there, but when. And it happened last Sunday at the Nurburgring. As a result Ricciardo is awarded even more with this week's Power Rankings score. He receives a 9.8.
Someone who also did excellently in the German Eifel was Verstappen. The Dutchman scores a 9.2 for his strong performance this weekend. The qualifying was especially good for the 23-year old driver and for a while it looked like he could even take pole position. Third place of the weekend goes to 'super sub' Nico Hulkenberg. He scores a 9.0.
Hamilton outside top five
Despite equalling Michael Schumacher's record Lewis Hamilton is only in sixth position. Not because Hamilton scores very low, but mainly because Sergio Perez and Pierre Gasly perform even better according to the jury. Hamilton scores an 8.4, while Perez and Gasly score an 8.8 and 8.6 respectively.
The ranking remains almost the same, but Verstappen does make up for a lot of ground at Hamilton. The difference between the two men is only 0.2. Ricciardo also comes a step closer with his almost perfect score, but the gap remains large.
