Eddie Jordan clear on Hamilton's position: "I would show him the door"
- GPblog.com
With just two months to go until the start of the 2021 Formula One season, it is still uncertain whether Lewis Hamilton will sign a contract before then. It seems highly unlikely that he will be unable to work out a deal with Mercedes, but if it is up to Eddie Jordan, the German manufacturer will have to step up to the plate.
The Channel 4 analyst is asked by f1-insider.com about the Hamilton and Mercedes situation. Jordan was known as a tough businessman in his days as team boss and by the looks of things has changed little. "If I was the boss of Daimler, I would show him the door: Either you drive on our terms or you leave."
Jordan uses his good friend Ecclestone as an example
Jordan says he is still well informed in the world of Formula 1 and, according to his sources, Hamilton not only wants a hefty salary but also a more influential role within the Mercedes group. In Jordan's eyes, it is logical that Daimler does not agree with such high demands. Especially because Hamilton is not irreplaceable according to him.
"I would also tell him what Bernie Ecclestone said after the death of Ayrton Senna. Even though Bernie was shocked and sad like everyone else, he was the first to regain his composure and say to us, 'Stop whining now': Everyone is replaceable," Jordan said.
