Starting in 2022, the rules for Formula 1 are going to change. This should allow the cars to overtake each other more easily. Perhaps an opportunity for Red Bull to perform better suggests technical director Adrian Newey. But is he is so enthusiastic about the new regulations?

Simpler aerodynamics will be applied in the new cars from 2022 onwards. Just as the teams will have less technical freedom. A concrete example is the budget cap. In this, the teams are only allowed to spend a maximum amount of money.

A missed opportunity

Newey reveals in an interview with Formule1.nl that he doesn't see it that way yet. "If you come up with a new regulation, then make sure it's good. But these rules just aren't."

Despite the missed opportunity, Newey stresses that he is not against change or progress. "I just don't think this is a good rulebook." He is also still looking for the challenge. "I have to admit that I still have to find something to make these rules exciting for myself."
