Perez: "Can understand that not every driver can adapt to this car"
- GPblog.com
It is no secret that Red Bull Racing's car is not the easiest to drive, judging by the problems both Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon have had with it. Sergio Perez made his first metres in the car on Tuesday and says he understands why his predecessors struggled.
Debut at Red Bull Racing for Perez
The 31-year-old Perez made his debut in the 2019 RB15 on Tuesday, during a film day at the Silverstone circuit. He then made his first metres in the 2021 RB16B, as did Max Verstappen.
Perez says it takes some getting used to, after seven years of playing for the same team. "It's very different, I can already notice the differences," Perez said in a conversation with Motorsport.com. "You feel that the car has a strong front end for example, you notice that both in the car and in the simulator."
Challenge to get everything out of the car
He continued: "I can understand that not every driver can adapt to this car. I can see that already with the timing I need and how I have to set up the car to get those last few tenths out.
"You learn that by gaining experience with the car, and learning how to get the most out of it. I hope it doesn't take too long for me to understand that," Perez concluded.
