Formula 1 is confident that 23 races will take place in 2021. Never before have so many Grands Prix been scheduled in a Formula One season and all during the coronavirus pandemic.
In 2020, Formula 1 was forced to cancel 13 races. Despite the ongoing travel problems caused by the coronavirus, F1 showed a new calendar for 2021 with no less than 23 races, an absolute record.
Events must go ahead as planned
Stefano Domenicali says all event promoters are assuming that the Grands Prix that are scheduled will actually go ahead. "We will navigate the challenge of the pandemic, but are pleased with how we have already been working with our partners", he is quoted as saying by MotorsportWeek.com.
The Australian Grand Prix was moved to a venue in Australia before the season started, but otherwise, the promoters are very positive according to Domenicali: "All conversations with promoters have been positive since the start of the year. And every one of them has made it clear that the events should be going ahead as scheduled."
