Gasly: "Too early to say if we can fight with Mercedes and Red Bull"

Pierre Gasly does see AlphaTauri winning races in the near future, thanks to the new rules scheduled for 2022. He cites MotoGP as an example: In the premier class of motorsport, so-called satellite teams regularly win races, beating the factory teams. Gasly sees this possibility for Formula 1 as well.
According to Gasly, the satellite teams in MotoGP are the perfect example that smaller teams with less money can become successful, even in Formula 1. "Of course it will take a few years, you don't become a top team in two years," Gasly told ASN Motorsports. "It's a long-term project."

He continued: "A lot of effort is being put into creating our own identity and being a strong contender in Formula 1. It's too early to say whether we can compete with Mercedes and Red Bull. At this moment I don't think so, the team is still too small. But if the resources are there, like the money and the infrastructure, why not?"
"We see that in MotoGP some private or satellite teams can compete against the top teams. If the regulations in Formula 1 also move in that direction, I definitely think it's possible," Gasly said.
