Daniel Ricciardo is certainly not doing badly at
McLaren, but so far it is mainly his new teammate
Lando Norris who is impressing. Ricciardo is of course new to the team, and after two weekends he will not be used to everything yet. The Australian thinks so too, and he tempers the expectations a bit.
Asked if he underestimated the move to
McLaren, he replied in the negative.
"I was very aware of it when switching from Red Bull Racing to Renault. It just takes some time, but the season is still long. We've only had two races," Ricciardo said in conversation with
Sky Sports F1.
Ricciardo remains positive
He adds that he is currently not as fast as he wants to be. "But if I look back at the second race after seven races I'll probably have to laugh about it. So no panic, I'm working on it," Ricciardo ends optimistically.
McLaren team boss
Andreas Seidl agrees with his driver's words, stressing that each driver only had a day and a half during the winter test.
"It's not so easy to find those last few tenths when you're not quite comfortable yet, that just takes time. With Daniel's experience and ours as a team, it's just a matter of three more races, and then I'm sure Daniel will feel completely comfortable in the car as well," Seidl said.
