Following his unfortunate season as Max Verstappen's teammate at Red Bull Racing, British-Thai driver Alexander Albon has been assigned a DTM and test driver role for the Milton Keynes-based team this year. This could soon change, however, via a recent development from the eye of sports medium RACER.

"Former Red Bull Formula 1 driver Alex Albon … is inbound for Indianapolis and will be onsite for the combo NASCAR/IndyCar road course event in a few days", RACER reports.

The event, which will feature both a NASCAR and Indycar race in one weekend and on one track, is the perfect opportunity for a driver like Albon to gauge what alternative routes and adventures he could choose to embark on.

Returning unlikely

Although Sergio Perez's seat at Red Bull is still not guaranteed, returning Albon to the premier class of motorsport does not appear to be high on Christian Horner and Helmut Marko's list of priorities. This would explain why Albon is probing for opportunities in other racing classes.
