'Verstappen is the kind of boxer who loves to hurt with every punch'
- GPblog.com
The incident involving Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton both at Silverstone has been the moment of the season so far. Verstappen could not continue, Hamilton received a ten-second penalty but still won the race and afterwards an attempt to compound this penalty by Red Bull was unsuccessful.
In an extensive article on Formula1.com, several journalists are asked if one of the drivers needs to adapt his driving style. Lawrence Barretto says if anyone needs to adapt, it's Verstappen.
"If Verstappen had been the one to give an inch more space and avoid a collision at Silverstone, even if he had lost the race, with the second and fastest lap, he would still have led by 26 points instead of eight. When you're fighting for the title, you have to think about the bigger picture. This comes with experience. After all, he's only 23."
Verstappen needs to temper aggression
That's how David Tremayne looks at it in the same article. "If you believe what Max said after Silverstone about his own driving, no. Personally, I'm still tempted to suggest that he needs to temper his aggression a bit more. He's the kind of boxer who loves to hurt every punch, whereas in Hungary we saw that Lewis knows where the line is in the furious dice he had with Fernando."
In Belgium and the Netherlands, we will see if Verstappen or Hamilton will actually change their driving style or if they will just continue on the same footing. After all, the second half of the Formula 1 season begins at the end of August with these two races.
