With this years Bahrain Grand Prix getting underway on with practice on Friday, we take a look back at the race’s history.

When the Grand Prix made its debut back in 2004, it became the first F1 Grand Prix to take place in the Middle East.

Since 2004, the race has been run 13 times with the race in 2011 being cancelled due to protests in Bahrain at the time.

In those 13 runnings of the Grand Prix, there have been just six winners. Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso winning the race three times each, with Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa winning the race twice each. Currently the only other two winners of the race are Michael Schumacher and Jenson Button.

The most successful constructor in Bahrain has been Ferrari, winning five of the 13 races, including last years where Vettel raced to victory. Mercedes have won three races, with Renault and Red Bull winning two each.

The only other constructor to win a race was Brawn-Mercedes in 2009, when Jenson Button won the race in his title winning season.

So once the race concludes on Sunday will we have a new winner? Or will Sebastian Vettel continue his successful start to the season and become the most successful F1 driver in Bahrain.
