Max Verstappen is having a dream season. Not only is he still on top in the world championship, but he also experienced a Grand Prix in the Netherlands. The driver of Red Bull Racing shares in conversation with Squaremile.com his experiences.

For the first time in 35 years, a GP was held at Zandvoort. The pressure on Verstappen was very high during the weekend, but the Dutchman didn't seem to have any nerves at all. He drove to victory with flying colours.

"I mean, it was just crazy," said Verstappen. "Of course the fans expect a lot from you – they expect you to win and because we did, it was incredible. The whole atmosphere after the race was just super crazy and amazing to see so much orange over the whole weekend. It was a very special moment. Even though there’s a lot going on, when you’re driving past you can see it and, on a slow lap, you can even hear their support."

Victory provided relief for Verstappen

Verstappen admits that expectations were high. "It was a relief to cross the line – anything less than a win would have been disappointing to the fans so I was super happy for myself but also for the team as we took the lead in the championship again. I mean, to win in front of your own friends; I think the best that can happen, right?"
