One of
Max Verstappen's biggest fans is
Alexander Albon, as was evident shortly after the finish of the
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The former teammate of Verstappen was present in his role as reserve driver for
Red Bull Racing, and was the first to scream at the top of his lungs over the team radio to congratulate the champion.
The Thai driver, who will make his comeback as a regular Formula One driver for the
Williams team in 2022, had nothing but praise for his old teammate afterwards. He stated that in his time as Verstappen's teammate he got to know him better as a driver.
"I understand Max's driving style and why he is so fast. That is talent,
" he explains in conversation with
Formula 1 Magazine.
Albon says karma played a part in Abu Dhabi denouement
"I've never seen anyone with so much natural speed before. In the single-seaters and Formula 1, Max has found an extra gear," continued Albon, who always sees his colleague driving on the limit from the moment he leaves the pits.
"He's a virtuoso." He therefore believes that Verstappen is without a doubt the rightful world champion, especially given the setbacks at the likes of Silverstone, Hungary and Baku. The victory in Abu Dhabi caused a lot of controversy, but according to Albon there is a clear explanation for the events in the last lap: "I'm not very religious, but I think it's karma."
