Alexander Albon managed to secure a point for Williams for the first time at the Australian Grand Prix last weekend. The driver, who returned to Formula 1 this season, feels strong in his current role. He says that is partly due to his experience at Red Bull Racing.

The Thai has been known as a great talent in the motorsport class for many years. In mid 2019, Red Bull decided to give Albon a chance in Formula 1 and the Austrian racing stable brought him in at the halfway point of the year as a replacement for Pierre Gasly. The collaboration was less successful than hoped for beforehand, as the two parties parted way at the end of 2020.

At the time, Albon fell victim to the internal struggle with Max Verstappen, where he clearly fell short of the Dutchman's ability to put up a fight. Nevertheless, he kept faith in his own qualities and hoped that a team would come along soon and take him on.

After George Russell's departure, Williams chose to contact Albon and tie him to the formation. Although his new teammate Nicholas Latifi also drove at Williams last season, Albon already outperformed the Canadian in the first three races. "I've become more of a leader," judged Albon at the F1 Nation Podcast.
