McLaren's Fernando Alonso admits that he doesn't know how much impact all of the MCL33 upgrades will have on the performance of the team, as the Spaniard knows that McLaren aren't the only ones who have made significant upgrades.
Spain is known to be the Grand Prix where all teams roll out a lot of upgrades, but McLaren have taken it a step further, as the team reportedly have made a B-spec of the car that is almost entirely new.
Fernando Alonso has scored points in all races up until now, but McLaren has been disappointing overall so far. The team hasn't found the pace yet to make it into Q3 in qualifying a single time. The Spaniard is excited about the new upgrades, but still has question marks at the same time as he doesn't know how the competition will look.
"We have aerodynamic upgrades, but so will 95% of all teams," he said.
"It could be that the gap remains as it was, or maybe we'll win some ground.
"It's on us to make it work and to meet expectations, and hopefully other teams won't do that."
Team principal Eric Boullier agrees with his star driver.
"From Barcelona on, we'll head into a new direction, but as Fernando said, you can't expect to be overtaking everyone.
"Everyone will have new parts, especially after the opening races, but so will they in Monaco, Canada and Silverstone."
