Fernando Alonso has rebuffed claims that he is no longer enjoying F1 and says that driving the car is still a
“fantastic feeling”, despite his
McLaren not being competitive enough to race at the front of the grid.
The two-time World Champion has only managed 50 points this season and has not won a race for more than five years, but he insists that it hasn’t stopped him enjoying the sport.
Alonso has just five races left of his illustrious career before he searches for pastures new elsewhere in motorsport.
He has often reiterated his desire to win the Triple Crown, and only has the Indianapolis 500 left to secure the unofficial crown, making him the second person to win it after the legendary Graham Hill.
IndyCar seems to be the most likely destination for the Spaniard, although nothing is signed yet and he is still enjoying his swansong in Formula One.
There have been some comments from the media that Alonso is looking forward to getting away from the sport, but he rebuked these claims.
He said: “No it’s the opposite, the opposite.
"It’s a fantastic feeling. Every race now from the moment I decided to stop it’s just a celebration. I can’t wait to go to Austin now and see again the place, drive around these cars.
“Maybe we’re not the fastest when you see the times at the end of the session but every lap feels fantastic.”
