Fernando Alonso will make his
Le Mans debut this weekend from the front row of the grid after team-mate Kazuki Nakajima grabbed pole. To round up a trio of former F1 drivers, Sebastien Buemi will also be part of the Toyota team.
Nakajima posted a 3:15.377 on Thursday evening, a time which was two seconds faster than the sister car and a huge four seconds faster than the next best.
“Kazuki did an extraordinary and there was no need to improve it, so all the credit to him. Starting first and second, I hope we can have a good race,” Alonso told reporters after the session.
“We have a very strong team, Kazuki did some impressive laps, we put everything in his hands and he delivered, so big congratulations to him.”
Even though Alonso makes his debut, he is well aware of the little implications qualifying has on the race and he confirms he is ready to race.
“We know that this is probably the least I important qualifying of our life because a 24-hour race is very long - now we have to prepare for the race, we will do our best,” added the two-time F1 World Champion.
