It is almost five years since Fernando Alonso’s last win in Formula One. It is one week since his last win in the World Endurance Championship. Could he be tempted to make the permanent switch in sport?
The Spaniard has called the schedule “demanding”, racing in two championships at once, at after his latest comments, it would not be a surprise to see him drop Formula One over WEC.
Alonso has 28 points so far this season, having scored at every race so far. He sits sixth in the championship and has guided McLaren into fourth place in the constructors’ standings.
Alonso slammed the sport while talking to Spanish journalists.
“The biggest thing here is how predictable everything is,” the two-time world champion said. “We can put in paper now what would be the qualifying here on Saturday, what it would be in Monaco, what it would be in Silverstone.”
Despite this, the Spaniard remains motivated: “I kept the motivation because I’m competitive. It’s difficult to see from the outside but you’re extremely proud and motivated every time you do a one-off performance.”
