Fernando Alonso wasn't surprised by his car's performance in qualifying ahead of the
French Grand Prix, even though the Spaniard finished all the way down in P16 in his
McLaren.
It was another disappointing outing for the British team, as neither of their cars were able to make it out of Q1. Still, Alonso claimed that there was nothing wrong with the MCL33, other than it just being slow in qualifying.
"The car was working but it was slow,” Alonso told Crash.net.
“There was nothing wrong with the balance, it felt okay over the laps but the timed lap was not quick enough to get to Q2 so it was a disappointing day.
"Hopefully tomorrow we can recover and score some points."
The newly crowned Le Mans-winner then explained that Sunday should be better than the qualifying, as that's been the case a lot this year.
“I think the performance has been so-so on Saturdays as the average position for our car has been P13 and we’ve scored points in every race we’ve finished so Sundays are normally better so hopefully that is the case tomorrow and it is one of those Sundays.”
