Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene has hit out at the media for creating “false rumours” of technical director Mattia Binotto leaving the team, saying the media are trying to “create instability” at the prancing horse.
With Mercedes beating Ferrari to yet another title, reports came out that Binotto, who reportedly has a bad relationship with Arrivabene, was tempted to leave Ferrari for another F1 team.
Binotto is seen as the main man behind Ferrari’s increased performance since the 2017 season, as he replaced Mercedes-bound James Allison in the middle of Ferrari’s winless 2016 season. Binotto was already at Ferrari before that but he was only in charge of the power units.
Since his promotion, Ferrari have significantly improved, although they haven’t succeeded in beating Mercedes to a world title just yet.
"Let's make it clear once and for all," Arrivabene was quoted by Autosport, "The rumours about Mattia are a fake news, put around to create instability in the team.
"It is an attempt to try to create problems where there are no problems, and I do not want to comment on false rumours anymore.
"During this season there have been many attempts at destabilisation, sometimes with stories about the drivers, others about the technicians.
"My position? Ask the managing director [Louis] Camilleri."
Arrivabene also added that Ferrari won’t be letting go anyone, and they won’t rush to sign anyone either to bolster the technical staff.
"If there are reinforcements they will arrive without any haste, I stress it, and [only] if we need to have them.
"The line is that of stability, if there are additions [they] will not undermine the soundness of the existing group.
"A team that works only needs reinforcements, not revolutions. Personally, I have never believed in revolutions, but in evolution."
