Following
Sebastian Vettel's announcement that he will retire at the end of the season, the rumour mill about the German's successor is in full swing. Team boss
Mike Krack confirms that
Nyck de Vries is on
Aston Martin's list.
It has been a long time coming that Vettel will leave the sport. The big question now is who will take over the seat from the four-time world champion at
Aston Martin.
Alexander Albon, Mick Schumacher and
Nico Hulkenberg have all been mentioned, but De Vries is also rumoured to be a contender.
De Vries on Aston Martin's list
Speaking to, amongst others, the Dutch branch of
Motorsport.com, Krack confirms that De Vries is on Aston Martin's list.
"Nyck is one of the drivers we are looking at, although that applies to several". The team boss knows the Dutchman a little from his
Formula E days and calls him a good guy. De Vries already had the chance to drive a
Williams and Mercedes car in a practice session this season.
Krack doesn't confirm whether De Vries will get the chance to sit in the Aston Martin seat. The team does not have a junior programme and reserve driver Hulkenberg does not meet the requirements to drive in a practice session. This season every
Formula 1 driver is obliged to give up his seat to a junior driver during FP1.
