As of 2021 Aston Martin is the new name for the team that was known as Racing Point last season. With this legendary name come new expectations, as the team wants to reach the top.
Aston Martin is back in Formula 1 and that is, of course, good news. The fact that a brand of that stature wants to commit itself to the sport is good for all parties. However, with that name come expectations and so Otmar Szafnauer and his team can no longer be content with 'best of the rest'.
''Our aim is to become a top team, but I don't think that will be easy. We have a lot of opponents. Ferrari will work harder this winter to close the gap and McLaren will get a new Mercedes engine," the Aston Martin team boss told Sky Sports. Szafnauer also elaborates on the new car for 2021.
''We are still working with a low-rake concept, but there are significant aerodynamic changes. We are getting a lot of new parts (from Mercedes) and we are working on improving the car. So although the car is similar to the 2020 car, it will also be new,'' concludes Szafnauer.
