An eventful FP1 session took place in Azerbaijan, with three red flags, and
Charles Leclerc and
Franco Colapinto crashing into the walls in two different corners. During the final moments,
Max Verstappen set the fastest lap time of the session, with a 1:45.546.
Lewis Hamilton finished in P2 this session, while
Sergio Perez also got up to P3 in the final moments. The Mexican still trailed his teammate by nearly four tenths, thanks to Verstappen's great last lap. Norris was the quicker
McLaren driver in FP1, and finished in fourth position ahead of
Carlos Sainz.
Charles Leclerc could not set a lap time on soft tyres because of his crash, and the Monegasque driver finished in P9.
