Former F1 driver Rubens Barrichello has confirmed he was rushed to hospital in February. He had to have a tumour on his neck removed.
Barrichello, 45, was released just a few days later but had to have surgery during his visit.
The Brazilian raced alongside Michael Schumacher during his time at Ferrari. He also had spent time at Jordan, Stewart, Honda, Brawn and Williams during a career that lasted 18 years.
Speaking on a Brazilian TV programme, Barrichello showed off his large scar on his neck.
“After everything that happened, I had a bunch of check-ups to find out more about my health conditions.
“They found a small tumour on my neck, which they removed after a race I did in Interlagos.
“I had it removed because, even though it was a benign tumour, it would’ve grown.”
The 11 time Grand Prix winner does indeed still race. He currently takes part in a touring car series known as Stock Car Brazil.
“I don’t want to have that kind of discomfort in the car,” added Rubens.
“A friend of ours who’s a doctor saw that I was in a bad shape and I’m very lucky.”
We wish Rubens a speedy route back to full recovery.
