The Mercedes boss has shown his frustration and misunderstanding of the issues the Mercedes team have after a winless opening three races.
Three races are the longest drought of race victories since the introduction of the hybrid era.
Today, the team have been back in Brackley to discuss potential reasons for their loss of dominance.
Wolff said: “Like the car, Lewis was not in the best place last weekend.
“He’s the best driver - but even the best ones have days where you’re not 100 percent.
“If you have a car not performing, tyres not doing what they should and then the strategy goes against you.”
With these remarks being passed on as excuses,
Toto Wolff dug deeper admitting the core of the issue.
“The car lacked pace,” added Toto.
“It’s not at the level we expect and hope.
“There’s never going to be a quick fix, in testing and in Melbourne you could predict we’d run away with the championship as the car was so dominant.
“Yet three races in and we’re not - we must stay calm and find solutions.”
Despite this, Mercedes are still leading the World Championship, but only by a solitary point. This time last year they were second to Ferrari.
