Billy Monger has been awarded the Segrave Trophy for his comeback to motorsport after having both his legs amputated following his racing accident in 2017.

In April 2017, Monger was involved in a high-speed crash at Donnington Park, which resulted in him having both of his legs amputated. He returned to single-seater racing in February 2018, testing a British Formula 3 car at Oulton Park.

He was awarded the Helen Rollason award at the 2018 BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony. He received the Segrave Trophy for his comeback to motorsport which demonstrated "exceptional bravery and determination".

Upon receiving the award Monger admitted it was only just sinking in saying: "My life has been so busy with my Formula 1 commentary and my own racing, I haven’t had the chance to digest how amazing this award is.

"But I stayed at Pall Mall last night and it’s just starting to sink in just how incredible it is. I’m super proud.”
