Daniil Kvyat came over the line in third at the
German Grand Prix and the
Toro Rosso driver has been reflecting on his first podium since China in 2016.
Kvyat managed the treacherous conditions at the
Hockenheimring to come third at the
German Grand Prix, behind
Sebastian Vettel and race winner
Max Verstappen. It was his highest finish of the season and his first podium since finishing in the same position at the
Chinese Grand Prix with the result moving him up to eighth in the Drivers' Championship.
His teammate
Alex Albon finished P6 and Kvyat reflected on the hugely successful weekend for the team during his
Hungarian Grand Prix preview.
"The last race in Germany was an incredible experience after stepping onto the podium again after three years. It was special because we didn’t have an easy weekend before the race, we didn’t qualify well so it looked like it was going to be a difficult Sunday," said the Russian.
"However, I think I drove a great race in the changing conditions and made good strategy calls along with the team, to ensure we were there to capitalise on whatever opportunity that presented itself."
Over the weekend the Russian's partner had their first child and Kvyat described it as a "surreal feeling" to finish on the podium on the same weekend.
