Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas and Renault's Nico Hülkenberg will both be starting at the back of the grid of the Belgian Grand Prix, the Formula One have confirmed on their website, as both drivers will have new engines installed into their respective cars.
Mercedes have a new spec of their engine available this weekend, and have opted to change all six engine elements on Bottas' power unit. The combined penalties for all these penalties will cause him to start at the back of the grid.
“If I do need to take a new engine there is going to be a penalty but in any case, Spa is one of the best places to take it because you can overtake,” the Finn commented. With Lewis Hamilton being out of sync with Bottas regarding spare parts, as the Brit has replaced fewer parts on his power unit, he'll likely avoid any penalties
Renault have done exactly the same for Hülkenberg; he'll have a completely new power-unit too. Hülkenberg too is out of sync with his teammate, Carlos Sainz, as the German's turbo failed earlier this year in Austria.
“I think then it’s very hard [to get back into the top six or seven starting from the back], especially a track I think here and Monza are two challenging weekends for us," the Hulk commented ahead of his penalty.
“If you start from the back of the grid, it makes it harder.
"I don’t want to sound negative, but let’s see what happens and how it unfolds."
