Charles Leclerc failed to convert his pole position into a victory at
Ferrari's home circuit. Italian businessman
Flavio Briatore is critical of the team. The former Renault team boss does not understand how
Ferrari manages to blow every race.
It was not Leclerc who crossed the line as the winner of the
Italian Grand Prix, but rival
Max Verstappen. The race was finished behind the safety car, leaving Leclerc no chance to fight in the closing stages of the race.
Earlier in the race, the Monegasque already faced bad luck, as the team called him in during the virtual safety car period when
Sebastian Vettel stalled with engine problems. However, the VSC was lifted quite soon, preventing Leclerc from taking advantage of a shorter pit stop.
Briatore understands nothing of strategy Ferrari
In the Monza paddock, Briatore reacts indignantly to Ferrari's result in conversation with
F1-Insider.
"It's unbelievable how Ferrari manages to blow it every race", he says
. According to team boss
Mattia Binotto, calling Leclerc in early for a set of mediums was the right decision. It did mean that the Monegasque would have to come in for a second pit stop, but according to Binotto it was the only way to have a chance of victory against
Red Bull Racing's fast car. Briatore responded to the Ferrari team boss' comments:
"Unbelievable!"
