A pole on a British
Formula 1 website has seen
Sebastian Vettel pip,
Lewis Hamilton to the top spot as the best driver.
The question was asked by the British
Formula 1 news website
Formula1News.co.uk. It's quite a crazy result for a country where the world champion comes from. Hamilton has also just matched the record of
Michael Schumacher of seven world titles. But according to the pole they seem to be more impressed by Vettel than Hamilton.
Many voters in favour of Vettel
53% of the voters have voted for Vettel, compared with 31% for Hamilton. The rest of the votes fell on
Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso. An important detail, however, is that it is not known how many people actually responded to the poll or where they come from. It is therefore not clear whether the result is representative.
When
Autobild confronted Red Bull advisor
Helmut Marko about this result, he reacted very surprised. However, he does get it somewhere.
"There is no doubt about Lewis Hamilton's driving skills. But on the other hand: today's Mercedes cars in the hybrid era have a much greater power advantage than we had with Red Bull from 2010 to 2013. The results from those years also show that. In addition, in 2017 and 2018 Vettel managed to finish in a Mercedes for Valtteri Bottas during the championship. That also shows class."
