Jenson Button believes that it is time for
Fernando Alonso to call time on his illustrious Formula One career and race in a different category. During the British Grand Prix weekend, Button gave his view on the plight his former team are in currently.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Button gave his view on the current predicament his former teammate is currently in with
McLaren underperforming.
"He's clearly still enjoying it, but as a double world champion, finishing ninth and being happy is not really something you want to get used to.
"I don't know what he's going to do next year, but I think they need a big turnaround and he has to have great belief in them to succeed next year, or he's going to go."
Button, who himself called time on his career in the middle of the unsuccessful McLaren Honda partnership for similar reasons, went on to explain that Alonso had many other categories he could go and race in, the most interesting proposition being
IndyCar.
"I know how frustrated he is, I can hear it on the radio," he added.
"He's got ambitions to win the Indy 500 and do the 'Triple Crown' and for me, I feel that's a good option for him next year.
"From a drivers' point of view who's got experience for this, he's got to do something else."
Alonso has made it clear that his ambition is to win motorsport's Triple Crown and having won Le Mans earlier this year, IndyCar is the most likely destination for Alonso after F1.
