F1’s CEO Chase Carey has admitted the calendar is full. The proposed new races will replace current events that will drop when their contract expires. The 2019 calendar is yet to be finalised, nor are the tracks.
Speaking to Racefans, Carey was more than happy to reduce the number of races currently on the schedule.
“We expect there continue to be a limited level of change per year, but that opens up opportunities to bring in some new races that we think would really be exciting new platforms for fans and the sport,” said Chase.
“We’ve got a full calendar, our focus is really quality, not quantity.
“For [20]19 it’s getting pretty well-baked. As you get out to [20]20, [20]21, there’s certainly discussions we’re having which could lead to new races.”
Miami is one of the Grands Prix on the list as is a race in the Netherlands. But to make room for these, some have to be removed. Which races would you be happy to say goodbye to? Let us know in the comments!
