Red Bull have confirmed they’re targeting Austria for their 2019 engine decision. They’re struggling to decide between staying with Renault or making a switch to Honda.
Their sister team, Toro Rosso, have been racing with the Honda engine since the start of the 2018 season. It’s possible that they could be using this as a way of testing the performance.
Both Renault and Honda will arrive in Canada with new engines in what makes for a crucial weekend.
In an interview with motorsport.com, Helmut Marko said talks are ongoing, and it will also have an effect on Daniel Ricciardo’s contract.
“We’re in talks. Our internal schedule plans that we want to have a decision on the engine issue by the Grand Prix of Austria,” said Helmut Marko.
“If possible, then also on the driver. I’m sure they’ll be a decision in Austria. There's not that many possibilities.”
Honda believe their upgrade is worth 40bhp and focused mainly on the internal combustion engine.
