Nyck de Vries has not received a penalty from the
FIA for careless driving behind the safety car, only a warning. It means that the Dutchman retains his ninth place finish on his debut in
Formula 1.
Max Verstappen's fellow countryman was given the opportunity by
Williams this weekend to replace
Alexander Albon for once. The driver did so convincingly, as he seemed to secure the ninth place after a great qualifying session.
However, after
Daniel Ricciardo's car came to a standstill a safety car suddenly came onto the track and, according to race control, De Vries may have made a mistake. The safety car concluded that there was nothing wrong and De Vries could keep his ninth place.
De Vries impresses at Williams
Partly due to his short preparation time, De Vries apparently made a big impression at
Williams this weekend. The driver seems to have increased his chances of securing a permanent place in 2023.
