Sergio Perez captured his first win of the season this weekend in Monaco. Behind the scenes, he inadvertently made a comment to Christian Horner that revealed that he has already re-signed with Red Bull Racing. It would mean excellent news for Max Verstappen and the racing team.

Perez's victory in Monaco showed how the driver has grown over the past year. Where he still struggled to reach his level at the beginning of the season in 2021, he is getting better and better at teaming up with Verstappen and also putting in good performances individually. His current third place in the world championship is the result of that.

Perez brings peace of mind for Red Bull and Verstappen

It would be a logical choice for the Austrian racing team to connect Perez to the team for a longer period of time. The Mexican not only brings enough points for the formation, but also provides the necessary peace within the team. Perez and Verstappen have often shown that they get along well.

After turbulent periods with Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon, Red Bull will be pleased to see that this season is once again about performance and not about fringe issues. Verstappen and Perez together have everything they need to make it a success in the coming years and bring more world titles to the team.

Perez no doubt realises that Verstappen is the better of the two drivers, but last season's Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi proved how important he can be to his teammate. For Red Bull, the extension of the partnership with Perez therefore seems to be a prelude to even more success in Formula 1.
