The Doctor working closely with Niki Lauda has announced how scary and serious his latest health issue became prior to the lung transplant. Doctor Klepetko is now optimistic that the 69-year-old will make a strong recovery from the ordeal.
Following a virus, Lauda was forced to have a lung transplant after a heart and lung pump failed to work. He admits the scary truth surrounding the state the triple world champion was in.
“In the last seven days, Mr Lauda was kept alive only by a pump, a sort of heart-lung machine,” Doctor Klepetko told Austria's Oe24.
“Considering the not very easy circumstances we are very, very happy with the developments."
Scary stuff! From us all here at GP blog, we wish him the best of recoveries.
