Formula 1 has been preoccupied with the possible departure of
Lewis Hamilton since the
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Some believe that the Briton will leave the sport after losing the world title, and former F1 boss
Bernie Ecclestone also thinks that we will not see Hamilton on the grid next year.
Many are of the opinion that the seven-time world champion is far from giving up and is instead full of motivation to go for his eighth world title in 2022, but others think Hamilton's disappointment in the sport is too great.
"I don't think he will come back. His disappointment is too great", Ecclestone tells
Blick. The former F1 owner spoke to Hamilton's father over the phone, but he sensed a question about a possible departure would not be answered. Hamilton's
social media has been quiet for almost two weeks now.
Hamilton has other passions
According to Ecclestone, it is time for the Briton to pursue his other passion.
"With also seven world titles like Michael Schumacher, it's time for Hamilton to pursue his dream of being a fashion entrepreneur."Team boss
Toto Wolff previously expressed doubts about the British driver's return. Still, many believe Hamilton wants to go for his eighth title to break Schumacher's record. Officially, Hamilton still has a two-year contract with the team of
Mercedes.
