Ferrari are 'pretty close' to having a performing car

Ferrari has not had a fantastic start to the 2025 season. After scoring abysmal points and a double DSQ, the team have brought a slew of upgrades to Bahrain. But where do they stand against the rest of the grid?

Ferrari’s deputy team principal, Jerome D’Ambrosio, was asked about Ferrari’s change in performance over a race weekend. He said, “There have been moments where it was similar — if you look at the Friday in Melbourne. What is tricky is that everything is really close.”

He continued, “When I say a bit down, if you do a good job and a competitor team isn't maximizing their package, you're still in the mix. To give a true picture of the performance is actually difficult. You know roughly where you stand, but the amount of impact on how you work and how you maximize what you have in general and during the weekend is a big part of it. “

Ferrari was able to maximise their car for Lewis Hamilton’s Chinese GP sprint race win, but unfortunately, their other performances have been 4th or lower.

D’Ambrosio said, “That's why you can see sways. That's no different than what we saw last year between track to track or even during a weekend. If you optimise everything, you can look better and it can make a difference in the classification. That's the legacy of having teams that are so close to one another.”

On the topic of where Ferrari needs to fix things to get better, he said, “There’s no one area — it's not like we've got to fix this or fix that. We're pretty close. In the end, it's a mix of things: trying to improve the car balance, trying to add a little bit of downforce, trying to put everything in the right window. “

“That's in the end how you move forward. It's a lot of little gains in many places that in the end bring you the result. That's really the approach we're trying to have — a steady approach. We believe that's down the line what brings you performance.”
