Carlos Sainz will not be allowed to act for
Ferrari during the Young Driver Test in Abu Dhabi. The
FIA announced this after the organisation first allowed two-time world champion
Fernando Alonso to race.
The test at the end of the
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is mainly intended to give young drivers a chance in
Formula 1. As the cars remain virtually the same for 2021, teams wanted to cancel the test altogether at first, but this was used as an interim solution. Renault, however, came up with a surprise.
Alonso did but Sainz did not
Indeed, Renault managed to get
Fernando Alonso, a two-time
Formula 1 world champion, into the car during that test at the
FIA. The Spaniard was authorised by the FIA because he had not been active in Formula 1 in 2020. However, this was against the sore leg of many other teams, who thought this test was important for the young talents.
As a protest,
Ferrari therefore also asked the FIA to have
Carlos Sainz tested for Ferrari. The Spaniard now drives for
McLaren, but it would make the switch to Ferrari easier if he could make more metres in Ferrari. However, according to
Autosport.com, the FIA has rejected this request.
