In the end, it was
Charles Leclerc who turned out to be the fastest in F1 qualifying on Friday. Verstappen drove a faster lap, but the
Red Bull Racing driver did go off track in the process and lost his lap time. As a result, Leclerc will start from pole on Sunday, and Verstappen starts from P6.
Verstappen will try an overtaking race
Between Leclerc and Verstappen are a number of other big names hoping for success at the
Circuit of the Americas.
Lando Norris starts alongside Leclerc, and the Brit showed good pace during Saturday's sprint race. The same can be said of the man in P3:
Lewis Hamilton. The third starting row is also interesting, with
George Russell and Verstappen side-by-side.
The most remarkable thing about the starting grid are the four empty spots on the grid. This is because Haas and Aston Martin have chosen to have their drivers start from the pit lane. By doing so, they avoid getting caught up in traffic, can change parts on the car, but are forced to chase from the first lap.
