Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly has been handed reprimands after their lap 1 collision at the French Grand Prix. Both drivers were forced into retirement at their home race after Gasly’s attempted overtaking move at turn 3 ended in tears, losing control and hitting Ocon’s Force India.
Being hit by Gasly was Ocon’s second incident of the day, after suffering damage at the hands of another French driver, Romain Grosjean.
The Haas driver was hit with a five second penalty and two penalty points on his licence for causing the damage.
"The stewards reviewed video evidence, heard from the driver of car 10 (Pierre Gasly), the driver of car 31 (Esteban Ocon) and the team representatives," an FIA notice read.
”The driver of car 31 was optimistic in his move from the left of the track across to the apex of the corner.
“The driver of car 10 was also overly optimistic in his late braking into the corner.
"The stewards are of the view that both drivers made errors which contributed to the collision.”
