In a session that was clearly used as a preparation for the main race,
Max Verstappen eventually drove the fastest time. The Dutchman was the only one on the F1 grid to go under 1:30 on Saturday afternoon, while other teams chose to drive longer runs with more fuel in the car.
Mercedes was one of those teams, which as a result could be found in eighth and ninth positions. The
Ferrari's were fast though, with
Charles Leclerc in second place and
Carlos Sainz on P3.
Esteban Ocon, with a new chassis, also showed his speed. The Frenchman recorded the fourth time, with former teammate
Sergio Perez in fifth.
The
McLaren duo finished sixth and seventh, ahead of the Mercedes duo.
Pierre Gasly rounded out the top ten. All eyes will now turn to the first ever sprint race in Formula One. The teams were clearly testing the tyres on a longer run and the front tyres seemed to be struggling at
Silverstone. So that will play an important role this afternoon.
