Lewis Hamilton was ultra busy during the winter break. The world champion tried his hand at skiing, surfing and skydiving all whilst using a new training regime for the 2019 season.
The five-time world champion insists he's now at his strongest and claims he changed his regime as a result of the new minimum driver weight (80kg) rule.
Hamilton, now 34, believes he's set to compete with the youngsters once again.
"Every year, the fundamentals are the same, trying to reach a similar target every year, so to have that bar lifted and to really dig deep into other elements of training has been quite an exciting challenge," Hamilton told
Autosport.
The extreme dieting has been relaxed and Hamilton has managed to add a few kilograms of muscle mass. Hamilton enjoyed the challenge once he got into it.
"Every year when you get back into training it's painful. But trying different methods - I worked with several different people for once - to try different things throughout the weeks was exciting. And I get to take that throughout the year. Deep-rooted, core-wise, I feel stronger than I've been in a long time.
"Body fat is going down, which is great, and you target more defined more efficient muscle. I'm not trying to be The Hulk. Naturally, it takes a long time to put on muscle, and in the right way as well," the Brit added.
"It's just been great to eat as much as I want to, and bigger portions."
