When you're winning as many races as
Lewis Hamilton, every track must feel great to drive on. But today, in a post-race interview with Sky Sports, Hamilton singled this track out as the best track F1 visits. He described it as "frecking awesome!".
Hamilton, 33, couldn't express enough how much he enjoyed racing around the
Suzuka track. On the 30th edition of the race, the Brit claimed how the wind and the modern cars made it all the better.
"Honestly, it felt amazing. This track is incredible. For us with the big tyres, it felt incredible and even better how the wind changed 180 degrees around a turn, it was frecking awesome," Hamilton said.
"People often say it's an easy race when in the lead like that, but I was just pushing trying to bridge the gap from the cars behind."
The four-time World Champion had a faultless performance as he led every lap of the Grand Prix. He almost picked up another Grand Slam only for
Sebastian Vettel to produce the fastest lap of the race in the dying stages. Keen-eyed Anthony Davidson did, however, spot a mistake, and Hamilton was easy enough to laugh about it.
"That was my only mistake [ran wide at turn 11], I was pushing that corner and it had been perfect every lap. I was nervous for a second because there's not a lot of room here," Hamilton continued.
"This is the best track on our calendar in terms of race circuit because they haven't ruined it by too much run-off areas, there's gravel. That's how all tracks should be. It's easier for younger drivers these days because they go flat out, make a mistake and go oops and come back on track."
The
Mercedes driver now has a 67 point lead over rival Vettel. Next time out he can win the World Championship at Austin if he finishes eight points ahead of Vettel.
