Lewis Hamilton worked hard Saturday morning to secure a good starting position in qualifying for the
Australian Grand Prix. Although he had a better performance with a fifth place, he is reasonably satisfied afterwards. He let it be known in the
Mercedes press release.
Hamilton realized all too well after the Grands Prix of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia that a place among the top teams is not in it for the time being. In Australia, he therefore focused on reaching Q3, which in recent weeks has also not been easy for Mercedes. The fifth place he achieved gave the seven-time world champion satisfaction.
"Compared to yesterday and to the last race, today was a good day for me. I'm really grateful for the work at the factory in turning the car around from yesterday," Hamilton revealed. "George and I tried slightly different things on our cars today so hopefully that's good learning for the team to take into the race."
Hamilton has big challenge ahead
Charles Leclerc picked up the fastest time in Q3 on Saturday morning, while
Max Verstappen and
Sergio Perez followed. In addition to that trio, Hamilton has
Lando Norris ahead of him at the start who set an excellent qualifying time.
