Lewis Hamilton shocked Formula 1 fans worldwide when it was announced that he would leave Mercedes for Ferrari at the end of the 2024 season. After spending 12 years with Mercedes, he decided to move to the Maranello-based team, thus ending one of the more iconic partnerships in F1 history.

Hamilton is currently the second-oldest driver on the Formula 1 grid. At this point in his career, a team change was unexpected, but Hamilton thinks it was just what he needed. He said the move to Ferrari "re-sparks motivation."

Hamilton doesn't take the move to Ferrari for granted.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was Lewis Hamilton's last drive for Mercedes. During the race weekend, his upcoming move to Ferrari was widely discussed. When asked about the move, he said, "It's a dream scenario for any driver to have an opportunity like this."

The seven-time world champion continued. "So don't take that for granted. Massive respect for Carlos [Sainz] and everything he's done within the team. I remember when I joined Mercedes, and it's not an easy step to enter a new team.". Hamilton also acknowledged that "it takes time to build new relationships and learn the tools."

As far as he stands with the actual move, he plans to "come into next year with that same focus, that same might that I had when I joined Mercedes" and "Ultimately, that leap of faith is exciting and exhilarating."

Could he win his eighth championship with Ferrari and finally bring the trophy back home to Italy?

The phrase "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak" comes to mind. When he joined Mercedes in 2013, he was a vibrant 28 year old, at the peak window of his physical prowess, so he has the physical ability to keep up with his focus to do well. Next year, at 40 years old, his intensions to focus and do well might be there, but his physical and mental ability wont be able to keep up and his very quick team mate will be far ahead in qualifying pace and likely race pace as well.

That's it. Take a deep breath and let the hate shine through... and breathe again.

You may well be right Mech E, if LH proves more than a match for LeC I bet you'll be first in the queue to give some praise

It is a bold move to Ferarri. Other culture in the team, a different car to adapt to. Sure, he gets loads of money for it, but he already has loads of it. So, respect from me he gets for moving over to Ferarri at his age. Of course, many wonder if he is still as fast as in his prime. But, what I saw in the last season, is that if the car is right he still is a top racer. If he will become again WC, that is maybe a bit far-fetched with a team that still makes strategy errors. But I think, if he wins a few races in a Ferarri suit, that it will shine on his long carreer.

Morning Doink, any thoughts on the next target after Lewis has retired ? 1... British ? 2a...any driver who doesn't jump out of Max' way ? 2b...irrespective of the drivers nationality ? 3...British and doesn't jump.out of Max' way ?

Thank you for “getting it” I knew you would, like I said “you are fair and balanced”.

??I'm right behind you FF, you're quite right there are only a few LH 'haters' left here who insist on twisting the knife so the antiMax/antiLewis 'fanbase' has definitely died down, hopefully not to return if Lewis makes good with Ferrari, love your post though, still we rise ???

I forgot Puss and boots…. Charles or Carlos , I am not sure. Your thoughts ?

Fangioforever 17 December 2024 at 10:12+ 5369

Otto tisk tisk I enjoy your viewpoints. You have always been fair and insightful and I have enjoyed our conversations. I have also enjoyed your calling out people for going over the line. In this case your post is out of character. Has anyone recently really gone after Lewis ? Obviously there is the odd one but in the last year they are both odd and rare. The vast majority of racing fans including Max fans like myself can not wait to see what Lewis can do next year. If Max is out of contention I could get behind Lewis and support an 8th WDC. As far as the next person goes Stroll ? Not worth the time or a seat. Ocon ? Maybe Russell most likely…. Unfortunately he is British but it has nothing to do with his passport. In simpler terms not for you but for a few others think of Shrek Shrek ….Max Donkey…..Lando Prince Charming……George

Hard to predict, they went from creaming themselves over Russell when he was at Williams and the brief cameo in a Mercedes to hating his guts when he was in a Mercedes fulltime especially when he didn't jump out of Max' way, then they love and praise him again because he out scored Lewis but it won't be long before Max bumps into Russell again and the girls daggers will be out. After Lewis has retired I think they'll go with 3.
