Lewis Hamilton's last race victory in
Formula 1 dated back to 2021, but at
Silverstone, the seven-time world champion finally won again. An emotional Mercedes driver appeared on the board radio after winning the
British Grand Prix. It caused loud applause in the
Silverstone grandstands.
Hamilton sobbing behind the wheel
"Get in there, Lewis! You're the man, you're the man!", Peter Bonnington, also known as Bono, shouted over the radio.
"Thank you so much guys, it means a lot to get this one," said Hamilton, who was sobbing behind the wheel of the W15. "A big thank you to the fans, I love you guys!" the emotionalised man said while driving the lap of honour. It was Hamilton's last race at Silverstone with the Mercedes team.
After Hamilton's emotional speech, team principal
Toto Wolff also appeared briefly on the team radio. "
We never give up, and what a sign-off!" said Wolff, referring to Hamilton's last
British Grand Prix for the Mercedes team.
