Helmut Marko sees a possible advantage for
Red Bull Racing over other
Formula 1 teams in 2025. The consultant expects a lot of internal rivalries within the teams, but does not think there will be any between
Max Verstappen and his new teammate
Liam Lawson.
Marko sees possible advantage for Red Bull in 2025
Earlier, Marko indicated that, especially at
McLaren and Ferrari, he expects a robust rivalry between the teammates there. According to the 81-year-old Austrian, it is clear that at
Ferrari, a battle will unfold between
Charles Leclerc and
Lewis Hamilton, and that at Mercedes, it is a matter of waiting to see to what extent Andrea Kimi Antonelli will be able to battle early on with
George Russell.
Also at McLaren, Marko expects to see a battle between teammates
Lando Norris and
Oscar Piastri. The Red Bull advisor sees that as a possible advantage for his own team:
"I think Piastri will not be satisfied with a role as number two. So there are internal rivalries, which I don't think we will have with Liam Lawson," he told
Sport.de.
What does Marko expect from Lawson alongside Verstappen?
As for Lawson's expectations in his first year at Red Bull, Marko is clear: "He should be three-tenths off Max in both qualifying and the race. That should be enough to score points for the constructors' championship and then gradually improve, if possible." According to Marko, though, it is very important that Lawson accepts that Verstappen is the better driver and that he should not go all out to try to beat the Dutchman.
